FLOATING ISLANDS

This piece is inspired by what MACHEIA and PLANO share in common: respect for tradition, a taste for the manual, the neglected and the unique. Combining the history of the 18th century cistern building with the history of the Bunho technique, in a juxtaposition of materials, expresses the intention of this intervention. The attention for the pre-existing and the insertion of living materials contrasts and complements materials such as oak wood, virgin green marble, brick and burnt cement. Taking advantage of the only place in the room where plants can grow, the piece reaffirms the skylights as sources of light and life.
